We have our own classroom in Topsham, Devon; tthe perfect place to meet friendly like-minded people. We teach sailing clubs, colleges & adventure centres and go to homes and offices too.

Your course pack comes with training charts, almanac, plotter, dividers, handbook, and exercises and gives access to the new RYA chart plotter.


RYA Essential navigation and seamanship

Duration: 16 hours, 2 days (or equivalent evenings or weekends)

Price: £95 online (including RYA navigation pack)

£120 classroom (including RYA navigation pack)

A great introduction to navigation & safety on the water. Perfect for less experienced skippers and crew or those looking for a refresher. Also great for small craft users like dinghy sailors, powerboaters, waterskiers, kite-surfers & jet skiers.

RYA Dayskipper

Duration: 40 hours, 5 days (or equivalent evenings or weekends)

Price: £320 (including RYA navigation pack)

Dayskipper is a great introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers. It covers navigation in familiar waters in daylight and covers lights and night cruising too. It’s thoroughly enjoyable and full of content. The new reference book is excellent and the chart plotter gives a realistic idea of electronic navigation afloat.

Course includes:

  • The basics of seamanship
  • the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage
  • chartwork
  • electronic charts
  • position fixing
  • plotting a course to steer
  • weather forecasting and meteorology
  • tides
  • collision regulations
  • construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat
  • emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts

 

RYA Yachtmaster

Duration:  40 hours. 5 days (or equivalent evenings or weekends)

Price: £320 (includes RYA navigation pack)

Advanced training for more experienced skippers, Yachtmaster builds on your Dayskipper knowledge. Designed for safe navigation on coastal and offshore passages in day and night. you’ll learn advanced navigation and meteorology. You’ll  use the RYA’s chart plotter software too.

Course includes:

  • position fixing
  • course shaping and plotting
  • tidal knowledge
  • use of almanacs and admiralty publications
  • electronic position finding equipment
  • taking and interpreting forecasts
  • plotting weather systems
  • weather predictions using a barometer and by observation
  • collision regulation
  • customs and excise regulations for cruising abroad
